We flew to Christchurch to meet our latest and greateste, Great Big Radio Star. Keira Jonkers is well on the way to being a star too. She might not have co-hosted a radio show before but she is very comfortable behind the microphone being lead singer in at least one band and playing or providing vocals in at least 5 others!
Keira is 13 and moved to Christchurch, from Auckland, two years ago. She surfs, plays touch rugby and enjoys reading and spending time with her friends... when she's not practising piano, guitar, saxaphone, drums or singing!
Keira was a wonderful co-host. She was prepared to give everything a go and we had heaps of fun! Keira gives 110% to everything she does - whether that be announcing the songs and stories, sharing the Birthday Shoutouts or answering our questions. Nothing phased her (even Trevor's jokes! :o) Since she's been in Christchurch Keira has learnt to surf! She loves reading and one of her favourite authors is Roald Dahl. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a favourite story and she loves how Charlie is given so many opportunities and goes on to do so many wonderful things, without loosing who he is or his love for his family. What a wonderful way of thinking and being! We had Keira working hard, as a co-host, but she didn't seem to mind too much. In fact I think you should listen out for her on Plains FM, you might just hear her hosting her own segment in the New Year! Keira not only plays in several bands but she writes her own songs! She was awarded the Musicianship Award, in Canterbury Rockshop Bandquest 2014, with her band Multi Ringtones.
Keira played and sang one of her own compositions for us and it was fantastic! Keira is a star in the making. She would love her music to be enjoyed by people all around the world. Her favourite pop star is Pink and Keira would love to follow in Pink's footsteps - strong, clear, positive footsteps. We look forward to celebrating Keira's successes with her!
